Not every day in the redwoods is filled with golden sunbeams—and that's part of what makes them so magical.
For Paige's senior session, the forest decided to tell a different story. Instead of warm light streaming through the towering trees, we were welcomed by deep emerald greens, soft mist, and an overcast sky that transformed Sequoia Park into something straight out of a fairytale. The mood was quiet, dramatic, and incredibly beautiful. Every now and then, the sun would peek through the canopy for just a moment before disappearing again, creating fleeting pockets of light that made the forest feel even more enchanting.
One of the things I love most about photographing in the redwoods is that no two sessions are ever the same. The weather, the light, and even the feeling of the forest change from day to day. Rather than waiting for perfect conditions, I've learned to embrace whatever nature gives us. Some of my favorite images have been created on overcast days like this, where the rich greens of the redwoods become even more vibrant and the atmosphere feels peaceful, intimate, and full of depth.
Paige traveled all the way from Texas to Humboldt County for her senior portraits, and it was such an honor to help create the whimsical, forest-inspired images she had envisioned. The towering redwoods of Sequoia Park in Eureka, California, provided the perfect backdrop for a senior session that felt timeless, artistic, and uniquely Northern California.
