Sometimes the sweetest wedding days are the ones that don't take months of planning. Robert and Dezeree's redwood elopement in Arcata, California came together in just one week. One week from booking, we were standing beneath the towering redwoods at Redwood Park in Arcata celebrating their marriage.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect. Robert and Dezeree recently found out they are expecting their second baby, and with their two-year-old daughter already keeping them busy, Dezeree and Robert decided to get married now. They planned a small, intimate Northern California elopement surrounded by a few of their closest friends and decided to make the most of this special season before their family grows again.
Their wedding day was quiet, relaxed, and incredibly sweet. We planned the ceremony around the light, hoping to catch the beautiful streams of sunshine that filter through the California redwoods. Thankfully, the day was perfectly clear, and as the sun moved through the trees, it created exactly the magical, glowing light we had been hoping for.
We started with a first look beneath the towering redwoods. It was a beautiful moment between the two of them before their ceremony began, giving Robert and Dezeree a chance to slow down and take in the fact that they were actually getting married.
Then came their vows.
A few of their closest friends gathered around them, with Robert's best friend serving as their officiant. The setting was incredibly peaceful, with the ancient redwoods towering above them and soft beams of sunlight streaming through the forest. It felt intimate and personal in the best possible way.
And then their two-year-old daughter made the ceremony even more memorable.
When it was time for the rings, she proudly helped hand them to her parents—although she accidentally dropped them along the way. Everyone laughed, and it became one of those completely unplanned moments that made the ceremony feel even more like them. It wasn't perfectly choreographed, and that's exactly what made it perfect.
After they officially became husband and wife, we wandered around Redwood Park for their newlywed portraits. We found a beautiful spot nearby with a bridge, gorgeous forest views, and even a swing. It gave us the opportunity to create romantic, playful portraits that felt completely different from the ceremony.
I especially loved having the freedom to photograph them naturally rather than relying on stiff, traditional poses. We focused on movement, connection, and the way they naturally interact with each other. The result was a collection of romantic redwood elopement photos that felt like them—joyful, intimate, and a little playful.
What I love most about their Arcata redwood elopement is how uncomplicated it was. They didn't need a huge guest list or months of planning to create a meaningful wedding day. They had each other, their daughter, a handful of people they love, a beautiful redwood forest, and a little bit of California sunshine.🌲🤍
