A Last-Minute Redwood Couple Session with Jeremy & India
Sometimes the sessions that come together quickly end up being some of my favorites. Jeremy and India reached out just three weeks before their trip to Humboldt County, hoping to make one of their bucket-list dreams happen: spending time together in the redwoods.
India had never been to the redwoods before, and while Jeremy grew up in the area, he moved away when he was very young and didn't really have memories of them. So getting to experience the forest together for the first time felt like something a little bigger than just taking photos. It was their first big trip together after five years of dating, and they wanted to make the most of it.
India had already pictured herself barefoot in the forest, and honestly, it couldn't have been more perfect. They both love art and were drawn to a more artistic, dreamy look for their photos. They specifically loved grain and haze, which gave me the perfect excuse to lean into a more creative side of editing that I don't always get to explore. I love photography that can feel a little different from session to session, and this one gave me the freedom to play with mood, texture, light, and movement.
We met at Sequoia Park in Eureka just in time for that beautiful summer light that makes its way through the redwoods. The sun was low enough to stream between the trees, creating those little pockets of golden light that make you want to stop and stare. It was exactly what I had hoped for.
And then there was India's hair. It was unbelievably long—nearly down to her ankles—and it moved beautifully through the forest. Between her barefoot wandering, the warm summer light.
Jeremy and India were just adorable together. After five years of dating, they had the kind of comfort with each other that made everything feel easy. There was no need to force anything. We could wander, talk, move around the forest, and let the moments happen naturally.
I think that's one of my favorite things about photographing couples. The photos don't have to feel like a photoshoot. They can feel like a memory from a really good day together.
For Jeremy and India, it was their first big adventure together, India's first time seeing the redwoods, and a chance for both of them to experience a place that had been sitting on their bucket list. I'm so glad we got to make a little art out of it along the way. 🌲🤍
