There’s something pretty incredible about getting married beneath the redwoods—especially when those redwoods are part of your family’s story.
This beautiful summer wedding took place in Redway, California, at the groom’s childhood home, a property that has been in his family for generations. Instead of choosing a traditional wedding venue, they invited their closest friends and family to celebrate with them in a place already filled with years of memories.
And the day could not have been more perfect.
The summer sun streamed through the redwoods, creating little pockets of light across the forest floor. It was exactly the kind of light I’m always looking for, and we took full advantage of it for their portraits beneath the trees.
Then, surrounded by the people closest to them, they were married beneath the redwoods at the home where he grew up.
Every part of the reception felt intentional. The wedding tables were absolutely beautiful, thoughtfully decorated and tucked into the redwood setting. With the tall trees surrounding everyone and the warm summer light filtering through, the entire celebration felt intimate and incredibly personal.
This is one of the things I love most about photographing weddings in Humboldt County. A wedding doesn’t have to happen at a traditional venue to be beautiful. Sometimes the most meaningful place you could choose is already part of your story.
