A Lord of the Rings Inspired Photoshoot in the California Redwoods
You don’t have to be getting married or celebrating a huge milestone to plan an incredible photoshoot. Sometimes you can simply love dressing up, have an idea you’ve been dreaming about, and decide to make it happen.
This couple traveled five hours for their Lord of the Rings inspired photoshoot in the California redwoods. They both enjoy dressing up and wanted something that felt whimsical, romantic, and a little like stepping into a fairytale.
They came prepared with the perfect details—a sword, arm sheaths, a cloak, and the most beautiful flowing dress. Once we got into the redwoods, everything came together so naturally. The forest already has that ancient feeling, so it was the perfect setting for the look they wanted.
And the light could not have been better.
We had just enough sunshine coming through the trees to create those beautiful patches of dappled light across the forest floor. If you’ve photographed in the redwoods, you know how quickly those little pockets of light can change. As soon as I spotted one, we ran to it. Then another would appear somewhere else, and off we went again.
They were completely willing to go along with whatever idea I had. If I asked them to run through the forest, stand in an unusual spot, move the cloak, swing the sword, or try something a little different, they were ready. That freedom gave me so much room to play with the light, movement, angles, and the environment around them.
What I loved most about this session was that they were simply an ordinary couple who decided to do something fun and creative together. They wanted photographs that felt like them, while also letting them step into a completely different world for an evening.
Between the towering redwoods, their fantasy-inspired wardrobe, the sword and cloak, and those little beams of sunshine hitting the forest floor, the whole session had exactly the whimsical, fairytale feeling we were hoping for. 🌲✨
