Chris and Hope
Engagement

Hope and Chris planned a beautiful picnic-themed engagement session at Bald Hills, hoping for warm sunshine and wildflowers across the landscape. We had envisioned soft golden light and a colorful spring setting, but when we arrived, we learned that a prescribed burn the year before meant the wildflowers weren’t going to bloom in that area this season.
To add to the shift in conditions, a thick fog layer was rolling in nearby and the warm weather was quickly changing. While the original vision looked different than expected, Hope and Chris stayed fully present and excited for the experience, ready for whatever the day brought.
Their picnic setup ended up being one of the sweetest I’ve photographed—simple, thoughtful, and full of connection. Because of how natural and comfortable they were together, every moment felt genuine and easy to capture.
As the fog moved in more heavily, the landscape transformed completely. What could have been seen as a disappointment turned into something incredibly atmospheric and unique. We leaned into the conditions, embraced the mood, and created images that felt soft, cinematic, and completely one-of-a-kind.
In Humboldt County, the weather rarely follows a plan—but when you’re willing to adapt, it often creates something even more beautiful than what you originally imagined.
