A Whimsical Senior Portrait Session in the Redwoods | Humboldt County, California

Ivy traveled from Santa Rosa to Humboldt County for her senior portraits. She had a very specific vision in mind—a forest setting with a whimsical, fairytale feeling. We created a two-hour senior session that allowed us to explore multiple locations and incorporate three different outfits.

We started at Drury-Chaney Trail, where the towering redwoods immediately created the perfect atmosphere. The quiet forest, soft filtered light, and lush greenery set the stage for a session that felt romantic and full of wonder. Ivy brought such a unique presence to the photos, and her background in dancing and acting made it so much fun to incorporate movement, expression, and storytelling into the session.

From there, we continued to Founders Grove, one of Humboldt County’s most iconic redwood locations. The massive trees, peaceful trails, and natural beauty of the forest created the perfect backdrop for Ivy’s whimsical vision.

To end the session, we stopped along a quiet road lined with towering redwoods on both sides. The grand scale of the forest created a dramatic final scene, bringing the entire gallery together.

One of my favorite parts of senior photography is creating an experience where each person feels comfortable expressing who they are. Ivy’s creativity, confidence, and artistic background brought so much life into these portraits, making the entire session feel like stepping into a storybook.
