A Redwood Elopement in the Avenue of the Giants

Some places leave a lasting impression on your heart. For Kane and Brittany, the towering redwoods of Northern California were one of those places.

A year before their wedding day, they traveled from Oklahoma to Humboldt County and experienced the magic of the redwoods together. The ancient trees, quiet forest trails, and sense of wonder stayed with them long after they returned home. When it came time to decide where to get married, the choice was easy. They would return to the place that had become so meaningful to them and exchange vows beneath the giants.

Their elopement took place on the beautiful Chandler Grove Trail in the heart of the Avenue of the Giants. Surrounded by towering redwoods and filtered sunlight, they chose a remarkable tree as the backdrop for their ceremony—a massive redwood that split into two trunks while sharing a single base. It felt symbolic of two lives coming together while remaining uniquely their own.

The weather could not have been more pleasant. Warm sunshine filtered through the forest canopy, creating pockets of soft light throughout the grove. The forest felt peaceful and welcoming as Kane and Brittany stood together beneath the trees and exchanged heartfelt vows.

After the ceremony, we wandered away from the main trail and explored some of the smaller pathways winding through the forest. Surrounded by vibrant ferns and lush sorrel covering the forest floor, we captured portraits that felt intimate and connected to the landscape. The rich greens, filtered light, and towering trees created the perfect setting for romantic photographs.

Before leaving the forest, we stopped along the roadway for a few portraits with redwoods rising dramatically on either side. Standing among these ancient trees, it's impossible not to feel small in the best possible way.

From there, we headed toward the Pacific Coast to end the day with sunset portraits by the ocean. It was the perfect contrast to the quiet stillness of the forest and a beautiful way to celebrate the beginning of their marriage.

For couples dreaming of a redwood elopement, the Avenue of the Giants offers something truly extraordinary. With ancient forests, peaceful trails, and the Northern California coastline, it's one of the most breathtaking places to begin a marriage—and for Kane and Brittany, it was the perfect place to continue a story that began one year earlier beneath these same towering trees.
