A Romantic Wedding at Ridgefield Weddings in Arcata, California
Nestled among the redwoods in Arcata, California, Ridgefield Weddings offers a beautiful combination of elegant design and natural beauty. One of the biggest reasons couples choose to get married in Humboldt County is the redwoods themselves. These ancient forests create a setting unlike anywhere else in the world—towering trees, soft filtered light, and a sense of wonder that makes every moment feel a little more magical. With thoughtfully designed spaces, lush landscaping, and easy access to the redwood forest, Ridgefield Weddings allows couples to enjoy both a luxury venue experience and the incredible scenery Northern California is known for.
The Beauty of Ridgefield Weddings
Before the day even begins, the venue itself tells part of the story. Elegant architecture, blooming gardens, graceful pillars, and views of the surrounding redwoods create a setting that feels both refined and connected to nature. The ceremony site was beautifully framed with flowing drapery and lush florals, creating a romantic focal point for exchanging vows. Nearby, an exquisitely designed reception table showcased thoughtful details and timeless elegance, while a stunning dessert display by Chef Margaret added both beauty and artistry to the celebration. The champagne tower, carefully prepared for the evening festivities, completed the luxurious atmosphere. Every corner of the property offers beautiful opportunities for photographs, making Ridgefield Weddings a dream location for couples who want both an elegant venue experience and the natural beauty of Humboldt County.
Bridal Preparations
We began the early afternoon in the bridal suite, where Sydney had just finished hair and makeup with the talented teams at Humboldt Bridal Makeup and Foiled. The suite is one of my favorite spaces at the venue, with beautiful natural light pouring through the windows and a balcony overlooking the courtyard and surrounding redwoods. The florals by Misty Mountain Flora added beautiful texture and color throughout the space and complemented every part of the day perfectly.
Quiet Moments Together
Before changing into wedding attire, we spent some time capturing indoor portraits together. The weather could not have been more perfect—a warm, sunny Humboldt County day with beautiful light streaming into the room. The many mirrors throughout the bridal suite created some really fun opportunities to play with reflections, adding an artistic and editorial feel to the images. These quiet moments together created some of the most genuine and intimate photographs of the day.
Wedding Attire & Garden Portraits
Once they were dressed in their wedding attire, we captured a few final portraits inside the bridal suite. The soft window light, elegant furnishings, and quiet atmosphere created the perfect setting for timeless images before heading outdoors. From there, we wandered the venue grounds, where the property was in full bloom. The ceremony space was beautifully designed with flowing drapery, lush greenery, and florals featuring rich burgundy accents. Every detail felt intentional and romantic, while the pillars, gardens, and pathways created endless opportunities for portraits in a setting that felt both elegant and inviting.
A Balcony Overlooking the Redwoods
One of the hidden gems of Ridgefield Weddings is the beautiful balcony attached to the bridal suite. Overlooking the courtyard, it features a charming pillar railing wrapped in ivy, adding a soft, romantic texture to the space. Framed by towering redwoods in the distance, the scene is filled with beautifully filtered light as it passes through the trees behind. It creates an intimate and cinematic setting for portraits while showcasing the natural beauty of Humboldt County.
Portraits in the Redwoods
Before sunset, we made our way into the redwoods for portraits beneath the towering trees. For many couples, this is the moment they've dreamed about when planning a Humboldt County wedding. Having world-famous redwoods just footsteps from the venue means you don't have to choose between an elegant venue experience and breathtaking nature—you can have both.
Golden hour portraits are easily my favorite part of a wedding day, and there is nowhere I'd rather photograph them than in the redwoods. As the sun filters through the branches, it creates the most beautiful dappled light, giving the forest an almost magical feeling. A gentle breeze added movement and whimsy to the images, while the scale of the trees, the rich greens, and the soft evening light created a setting that felt both cinematic and timeless. These quiet moments together, away from the excitement of the day, often become some of the most meaningful photographs in a wedding gallery.
A Champagne Tower to End the Evening
To end the evening, a champagne tower provided the perfect celebratory touch. It was a beautiful day filled with thoughtful details, stunning design, unforgettable scenery, and the magic of the redwoods. Working alongside such an incredible team of talented local vendors brought every element together so seamlessly, creating a wedding day that felt both luxurious and deeply personal. It's the combination of breathtaking landscapes and amazing vendors that makes a Humboldt County wedding so special.
For couples traveling from outside the area, the redwoods are often one of the main reasons they choose Humboldt County. There are very few places where you can exchange vows at a beautiful venue and then step into an ancient forest for portraits all within the same day. The combination creates wedding imagery that is truly unique to Northern California.
